ABG, also known as Porzellanfabrik von
Alt, produced bisque or china head
dolls on kid, cloth or composition bodies and all bisque dolls
from 1854-1930's in Nauendorf, Thuringia, Waltershausen Germany. They made beautifully detailed child, lady
and character baby dolls. Reference books have identified more than
50 mold numbers, between 639 - 1304 that have been attributed to Alt,
Beck & Gottschalck,
although they could be used by other manufacture's like Simon &
Halbig, too. ABG doll molds, like most antique dolls
today, can be reproduced by doll artists, reproduction doll molds will be
a much smoother
bisque than the
original old bisque, which feels slightly rough to the touch. Alt, Beck &
Gottschalck also used the doll mark JIO.
ABG is also credited as the supplier of the Baby Bo
Kaye, Bonnie Babe, Bye-Lo Baby, My Girlie and (probably) Gladdie dolls distributed by
George Borgfeldt and K and K Toy
Co. bisque doll heads, a company also owned by Borgfeldt.
