Barbie Fashions - 1963 

Barbie met her best friend Midge in 1963, they discovered they were the same size and could share their wardrobe, much to Midge's delight.  Nine new outfits were offered this year and twenty from the previous season plus the Pak items. 943 Fancy Free 1963-1964 - Red and blue cotton full skirted dress with waist and patch pockets trimmed in white ric-rack. No accessories were included. NRFB-$75-150, MC-$25-30.

944 Masquerade 1963-1964 - Yellow & black cotton halter top costume with black net trim and gold sparkles $8, black panty hose $20, black open toe heels with yellow pompons $30, yellow and black felt hat $8, black plastic mask  $18, invitation on yellow paper "Come to My Party" $20, picturing the hat and mask from this costume.  NRFB-$175-200, MC-$75. 

Note:  794 is Ken's Masquerade and 1903 is Skipper's Masquerade, co-coordinating outfits to Barbie's. 

945 Graduation 1963-1964 -  Black robe $8 with a white felt collar $15, black felt tasseled hat $10, a plain paper diploma tied with a ribbon $15.  NRFB-$95-125, MC-$48.

Note: Ken has a matching outfit as well but his does not feature the white felt collar and has a Ken tag.

946 Dinner at Eight 1963-1964 - Deep orange sleeveless jumpsuit $ 50 & metallic ginger lace hostess gown that snaps in the front $18, cork wedgies with gold uppers $20. NRFB-$200-225, MC-$90

947 Bride's Dream 1963-1965  - White satin short sleeved dress with sheer chiffon overskirt & tiers of five ruffles just down the waist to floor in a inverted "V"  $55, tulle veil with pearl headpiece $20, blue garter $20, fabric and lace bouquet $95, pearl necklace $30, long white tricot gloves $17, and white open toe heels $12.  NRFB-$300-400, MC-$229.

948 Ski Queen 1963-1964 - Blue short hooded jacket with braid trim zippered front $6, turquoise stretch pants $6, red cotton mittens $12, black plastic ski's $15, wooden ski poles $18,  black ski boots $10, and blue goggles $20.  NRFB-$165-200, MC-$88.

949 Raincoat 1963 or 0949 Stormy Weather 1964-1965 -  Yellow poplin coat $15, yellow belt with buckle $15, rain hat $10, umbrella covered in a sleeve of the same yellow poplin material, and white knee high plastic boots $10.  NRFB-$95-175, MC-$50. 

951 Senior Prom 1963-1964 - Green satin full skirted ball gown, light blue satin trimmed top, green & blue tulle panels encircling waist to floor $85, green open toe heels with tiny white pearl accents on the instep of each shoe $35.  NRFB-$200-225, MC-$115.

953 Barbie Baby Sits Apron 1963-1964   - Pink floral bassinet $10 with floral liner $8, pink lace trimmed pillow $7, blue stripe flannel blanket $7, jointed baby $15 with (2) white diaper's each with a pin $10 & pink dot bed jacket $5, alarm clock $8, black rimmed eye glasses $30,  pink & white striped babysitter apron with two solid pink pockets $2, white square telephone $10, a brown soda bottle $10, a white baby bottle $15, three books each $8 tied with a black plastic belt-like strap $10, red book "How to Loose Weight", green book "How to Get A Raise", yellow book "How To Travel" and an empty pretzels box (not shown).   NRFB-$325, MC-$200.

953 Barbie Baby-Sits with a Layette 1965 - Layette; This set only, pink tricot baby wrap $15, white eyelet christening gown  $20 & bonnet $20, blue "Barbie's Baby Sitter Manual" $10, and formula recipe card $10.  NRFB-$425, MC-$285

954 Career Girl 1963-1964 - Black & white tweed two piece fitted suit jacket $20, skirt $20, red cotton sleeveless body suit $25, matching hat trimmed with black ribbon & a red rose $25, long black tricot gloves $18, and black open toe heels $8.  NRFB $275, MC $116.

Mattel reproduced this outfit in 2006 as a collector request.

955 Swingin' Easy 1963 - Same dress as 978 Let's Dance, but now made in green print, with a solid green knit waistline with tie $35, white plastic clutch purse $8, pearl on a chain necklace $75, and black open toe heels shoes $8.  NRFB $245, MC $126.

956 Busy Morning 1963 - Same as 969 Suburban shopper only in a coral an white color $25, missing straw hat $30, white telephone $10, fruit filled straw handbag $18, white open toe heels $12, pearl on a chain necklace $75.  NRFB $275, MC $170.

957 Knitting Pretty Blue 1963 - Same as the earlier 976 Sweater Girl now in a royal blue knit cardigan with four gold tone beads, shell and blue wool wrap skirt.  Royal blue open toe heels, wooden bowl with yarn balls and two knitting needles, red "How to Knit" book and metal scissors.  NRFB $200.

959 Theater Date 1963 or 1612 Theater Date 1964 (no hat this year) - Two piece green satin suit, bolero type jacket $20, one ruffle over a straight skirt $20, white sleeveless top $20, pillbox green hat with bow trim $25, and green open toe heels $15. NRFB $175, MC $100. 

This outfit is made from the Pak satin separates pieces.

992 Golden Elegance 1963 - This is the same design as 961 Evening Splendor only now its in a red and gold brocade fabric, matching sheath dress $30, brocade coat with red satin lining and cuffs trimmed in real brown fur $35, pearl & real brown fur headband hat HTF $25, short white tricot gloves $15, graduated pearl necklace $30, white hankie (it's not even hemmed!) HTF $50, red rectangular velvet clutch purse HTF $35, and brown open toe heels $12.   NRFB $350, MC $262.  

This same red and gold brocade fabric was used to make 0873 Guinevere's hat and shoes which are also HTF in 1964-1965.

993 Sophisticated Lady 1963-1964 - Beauti-ful!  Red velvet coat, lined in pink satin, has a large "Elvis" stand-up collar $35, pink silk gown has silver lace trim on skirt bodice $35, long white tricot gloves $17, pink pearl necklace $45, clear with silver glitter tiara HTF $95 and pink open toe heels $8.  NRFB $425, MC $235.
