Beehler, Fortune, Ontario Plastics, Virga Dolls 1949-1950s

Beehler ca. 1950's PrincessSummerFall Winter Spring, face

Beehler Arts, Fortune Toys Inc., Ontario Plastics and the Virga Doll Company all seem to have been connected, as well as Kimport dolls which used the same address as Beehler.  They all produced similar Ginny type 7 1/2 - 9" tall, hard plastic walking dolls in the 1950's.  Many of these dolls are unmarked and therefore, if out of box can be difficult to identify.

Some competitors for these small hard plastic type dolls are;

PMA - Plastic Molded Arts, Doll Bodies, Grant Plastics, Kimport Dolls, Niresk Industries and Stashin Dolls all on the Hard Plastics doll page.   See also the Hard Plastic Marks page.

Here are dolls by; Beehler Arts, Fortune Toys,

Ontario Plastics, Virga Doll Co we have found

ca. 1950's Princess SummerFall WinterSpring (Indian Princess), 14 1/2 or 18" tall, #1200, all hard plastic, fully jointed body (this is not the puppet version), blue sleep eyes, very distinctive facial paint & curved eyebrows with a rosebud closed mouth.  Dressed in her original Princess outfit with crown & charm bracelet.  She was a character played by actress Judy Tyler in the  Howdy Doody TV show from the 1950's, who sadly died in an auto accident in 1957. There were also smaller version dolls; one was a dress-me type doll  8" tall & hand puppet versions.  The doll shown here is VHTF.  She was made by the Beehler Arts Co.
