The Danel & Cie Company was founded by Messieurs Anatole Danel
and Guepratte located in Paris and Montreuilsous Bois, France. Danel was a past director of the Jumeau doll
company, and the companies had factories across the street from one
another. In 1890 Jumeau successfully sued Danel & Cie for
copyright infringement. By 1895 Danel & Cie went out of business and
Jumeau, probably as part of the settlement, renewed their Paris Bebe and Bebe Francais trademarks and continued with their own
production of the doll.
They are best know for their bisque socket head dolls,
with paperweight
eyes, feathered brows, pierced ears with wood and composition jointed
bodies: Paris
Bébé, Bébé Français and a black Bébé Français, all of
which are high quality.
Danel & Cie used the Eiffel Tower trademark, Tété
Déposé/Paris Bébé, or B # F as their marking. (The
French term Bébé, Bebe = dolly or baby faced doll).
