Mattel Liddle Kiddle History 1966-1970

Mattel was the first to create these miniature dolls in the mid-1960's.  They are 2 1/2" - 3 1/2" tall.  Girls and boys share the same vinyl covered wired body styles, thus you can "bend and pose them".  They come in a 2 1/2" shorter stocky body like 3501 Bunson, or a skinnier body like 3503 Liddle and the taller thin 3 1/2" body like 3502 Howard.  They have "rooted hair which can be combed or brushed" and their heads can turn.

Dolls came on a card board hanger, with a clear plastic bubble as shown below, each doll has their own theme or accessories of work or play; a comb and brush set made of plastic usually in yellow and a Kiddle funny book which tells a little story and describes the other dolls in the series.

It's believed that their were 24 original Kiddles, next were Storybook Kiddles and so on; all are listed chronologically by their year and series name.  Most pictures show the doll complete, and I'm trying to note where items are missing to help the kollector.

3501 Bunson Bernie 1966-673501 Bunson Bernie (1966-67)

Bunson is 2 1/2" tall and has the stockier body type, brown rooted hair, blue eyes, he's wearing a yellow vinyl raincoat that closes in front with two brass hooks, tan pants and black shoes (each marked "Japan" on the bottom).  His big red vinyl hat has a paper sticker on the front that reads "Fire Chief'.  He rides in his red fire truck with a round black steering wheel that turns as do the black tires, there are two white ladders that hang on  hooks on the sides of the truck, and these are often missing from loose dolls. Yellow comb, brush, and comic book with Bunson and Calamity on the cover.

3503 Liddle Diddle (1966)

3503 Liddle Diddle (1966-67)

Liddle has rooted blond hair pulled up into a short ponytail on top of her head, blue eyes, is 2 1/2" tall.  She's wearing her pink patterned cotton pajamas, blue accent ties, that tie in the back.  Her accessories are a pink crib with working sides (they can be slid up or down) and have a bead trim hung on each side, a solid pink fabric, lace trimmed pillow, and the tiny yellow plastic duck.

3502 Howard "Biff" Boodle (1966)

Biff's yellow knit tee shirt has red lettering that reads "Call Me Biff", he's also wearing jean type pants and a red vinyl baseball cap. He has white rooted hair, brown eyes and is the skinnier body type 3 1/2" tall. Yellow wagon with red handle and black wheels. Wagon may have color variations, but an orange/pink wagon would be Rolly's.

3502 Howard "Biff" Boodle (1966)

Values range from $10 for loose dolls to $500+ for mint on card and complete.  The hardest to find is 3587 Baby Liddle, (not to be confused with 3504 Liddle diddle) she has the blonde hair tuffs and comes with a buggy.  I have only seen her come up for auction twice in the last few years, she was loose but in good condition with her buggy and sold as such for $300. Next would be the Kosmic and probably the Walkers or Skediddles and Storybook Kiddles.

Besides the dolls their are cases, houses, snap-happy furniture, paper goods, games, lunch boxes, records, posters and more.                                                                 Happy Kiddle Kollecting!
