Nancy Ann Story Book Doll
Company (1936-1964), founded by Nancy Ann Abbott in San Francisco, CA
USA, first made small bisque dolls, later they made hard plastic
dolls. Here are some Muffie dolls we have
found from 1953-1956:

1953 Muffie, 8" tall, strung doll, SLW = straight leg
walker, no eyebrows, all hard plastic with jointed
body, sleep eyes with real lashes, (auburn) dynel wig with a
side part and styled in a flip, #603-1 outfit blue and
white striped and polka dot dress, from Muffie's Favorite
Fashion series. She has blue sleep eyes.
Marked:

1953 Muffie, 8" tall, strung doll, SLW = straight leg walker, no
eyebrows, all hard plastic with jointed body, sleep eyes with
real lashes, (blonde) dynel wig with a side part and styled in a
flip, #506-1 outfit a gay cotton print dress. She
has blue sleep eyes.
Marked: Storybook Doll California.

plastic jointed body, sleep eyes with real eye lashes, (blonde)
dynel wig with a side part and styled in a flip, #807-1
outfit yellow satin gown with black & white lace trim.
Hat is a replacement.

1953 Muffie, 8" tall, strung

body, has dimpled knees with creases behind the knee, sleep eyes with real
lashes, (blonde) dynel wig with a side part and styled in a flip, #504-1
outfit floral dress. She has brown "root beer" eyes
which are very rare and HTF. Doll is unmarked.

Muffie - Doll Characteristics:
all hard plastic jointed body, sleep eyes, dynel wig, & detailed
toes. Her arms had separate fingers with metal loops for stringing
instead of plastic arm hooks. They had hard plastic heads until 1956
when the vinyl heads were introduced. Facial features and other
characteristics also changed over time.
Type #1
1953 strung, SLW straight legs, no eyebrows, lashes painted over
eyes (rare early strung dolls with brows have been found).
Marking: unmarked or Storybook Dolls California.
Type #2
1954 SLW walker straight legs, head turns, no eyebrows, molded
lashes with painted lower lashes. Marking: unmarked or Storybook Dolls California.
Type #3
1955 SLW walker straight legs, head turns, eyebrows, molded lashes
with painted lower lashes. Marking: Storybook Dolls California Muffie.
Type #4 1956 walker, SLW
straight leg or BKW bent knee, head turns, eyebrows, molded
lashes with painted lower lashes (including pastel wig Muffies). Marking: Storybook Dolls California Muffie.
Type #5
1957 on, varied widely, marked and unmarked, walkers and strung,
etc. Marking: unmarked or Storybook Dolls California Muffie.
Type #6 1968
International Series, "Muffies from Around the World",
walker, wide set straight legs, head turns, molded lashes with painted
lashes under eyes. Doll marking:
