Quaddy Playthings
Manufacturing Company was begun in New York city in 1916. Shortly after Quaddy purchased a doll factory in Kansas City, Missouri and moved all their
equipment and skilled employees to the new location as well.
Quaddy made
composition dolls and figures plus other merchandise based on author and comic strip writer Thornton W.
Burgess's animal characters most notably Peter Rabbit, designed and illustrated by
Harrison Cady of Brooklyn, New York.

Quaddy Playthings Peter Rabbit is 17" tall, composition flange head,
cloth body and limbs with outside disk joints at the shoulders and hips, ears
and back of head molded and painted to resemble fur, painted black large side
glancing eyes, long fringe of painted upper lashes, open closed red mouth,
painted whiskers.
Our Peter wears a green
jacket with black lapels, green bowtie, cream or white shirt with attached
stitched cummerbund, red and white striped pants, socks and shoes. The
Peter Rabbit doll is unmarked, has a red ribbon sash with his name on it.
He probably also came dressed in other clothing colors. |
