Spiegel 1942 Horsman doll Little Queen of the Skaters Doll

Joseph Spiegel founded the Spiegel Company of Chicago, Illinois in 1865 selling home furnishings.  By 1905 Spiegel was offering a variety of merchandise by mail order catalog.   We have no idea exactly when Spiegel began offering dolls and toys in their catalog, however here are some Spiegel Catalog Ads for antique to vintage dolls beginning in 1933, that we have found, that may help to identify a doll, along with the original price for the doll.    As with many doll distributor's, doll names may be specific or exclusive to Spiegel and often the actual doll maker is unnamed.

1933 Spiegel Baby Doll, 10 1/2, 14, 16, 18" tall, composition head that tilts, turns and nod, sleeping eyes, Tru-Flesh rubber like body, dimpled hands and feet, cries when legs are squeezed, can be bathed with soap and water like a real baby, 10 piece layette included with doll; organdy dress, bonnet, petticoat, white socks, and bootees, wash cloth, sponge, baby powder, safety pins, bar of soap.  $1.98-$5.69	1933 Spiegel baby Doll ad

1972 Spiegel Jeanie Walks doll and dog Fluffy, 14" tall, vinyl head with rooted blonde hair tied in pigtails with ribbons, sleep eyes, open mouth, dressed in a green dress, with white flowers, pink centers and pink stripes, white plastic belt with buckle, molded white socks and shoes, white vinyl "Fluffy" puppy dog - just squeeze the air bulbs and she takes a step as Fluffy jumps along.  Unknown how doll is marked, appears to be a Mattel doll.  A similar doll is 1972 Sears Baby Walks doll 11" with a different dress, same white dog.  Tomy also made a similar marked doll.	1972 Spiegel Jeanie Walks doll & dog Fluffy, 14"
