Century Doll Company 1909-1928 |

The Century Doll Company of New York made bisque and composition dolls from 1909-1928. Max Scheuer the founder retired in 1926 and his sons continued the business until 1928 when they merged with the Domec Toy Company and were then known as the Doll Corporation of America, who continued to use domec as a trade name.
They are probably best known for their Bye-Lo Baby type bisque character Babies with Kestner made bisque heads. Some other doll names were: Babette, 1918 Baby Shirley, Barbara, Blue Eyes, Brown Skin Dolls, Darky Doll, Mastercraft Dolls, Sunshine doll line with Sears, Sweetums & The Century Doll. ca. 1921 + Romper Boy, 13" tall, composition shoulder head & limbs, cloth body, molded & painted hair, painted eyes, closed mouth, marked: Century Doll Co 1021 Made by Grace Corey.
1928 Polly Prim, 12" tall, Patsy type, all composition jointed body, very lightly molded painted brown hair, brown painted eyes looking straight ahead, closed painted mouth. Polly Prim came in a trunk with a wardrobe. Doll is unmarked. |
