Googly Eye Dolls 1912-1938

Goo goo eye, Googlie Eye, Googly Eye, Googly Eyed, Googly Eyes or Ogling eyes are all terms used to describe the side glancing and sometimes side rolling eyes of these charming dolls.  Googly eye dolls have been made from antique to modern times, always with eyes slyly glancing to the side.

The Googly term is thought to have originated from the German words “Guck Augen” which translates to “ogling eyes that move to one side”.

The word Schieler probably also describes dolls with googly eyes and has been found in German catalog descriptions and incised on some Googly eye dolls. Googly dolls can be a few inches tall to to a whopping 22″ but most googlies are under 12″ tall. Googly dolls are very desirable, highly valued by collectors and are reproduced by hobbyists and artists.
