Louise Kampes; Kamkins Cloth Art Dolls USA 1919+
1920s Kamkins cloth boy doll mask face 19″ tall
Kamkins Studio cloth art dolls were made by Louise R. Kampes of Atlantic City, NJ USA, the dolls are 18 or 19″ tall, with heads of a heavy cloth canvas over rubber that is bonded together, then painted to form a mask like face with a swivel flange neck joint. Painted eyes usually without eyelashes, closed mouth. Most dolls found have a human or mohair pageboy style wig (some longer hair wigs too), probably so the doll could be dressed as either a boy or girl.
Kamkins dolls have a flesh colored cloth stuffed body with either disk jointed shoulders and hips or tab style joint at the shoulders with stitched hips and a voice box in the tummy. Ms. Kampes used home sewers to assemble the dolls and clothing in appropriate to the era outfits.
