Alexander Dolls 1970s+ USA

The Alexander Doll Company was founded in 1923 and is still in operation today in New York, NY USA.  Dolls found on this page are the continuation of the hard plastic and into vinyl headed dolls.  Most of these dolls will be clearly marked on their back or head with an Alexander marking and clothing tags usually give the doll characters name on a tag sewn into a seam.

1976-1989 Alexander First Ladies Doll series, 14″ tall, vinyl dolls with rooted hair, used the Mary Ann or Martha face mold.  Dolls are based on the thirty-six United States President’s “First Ladies”.

Series One 1976:  1st ladies; Martha Washington, Abigail Adams, Martha Randolph, Dolley Madison, Elizabeth Monroe, Louisa Adams.

Series Two 1979: 1st ladies; Sarah Jackson, Angelica VanBuren, Jane Findlay, Julia Tyler, Sarah Polk, and Betty Taylor Bliss.

Series Three 1982:  1st ladies Abigail Fillmore, Jane Pierce, Harriet Lane, Mary Todd Lincoln, Martha Johnson Patterson and Julia Grant.

Series Four 1983: 1st ladies; Lucy Webb Hayes, Lucretia Garfield, Mary McElroy, Frances Cleveland, Caroline Harrison and Mary McKee.

Series Five 1985:  1st ladies; Ida McKinley, Edith Roosevelt, Helen Taft, Ellen Wilson, Edith Wilson and Florence Harding.

Series Six 1989:  1st ladies Grace Coolidge, Lou Hoover, Eleanor Roosevelt, Bess Truman, Mamie Eisenhower and Jacqueline Kennedy.

1980+ Alexander Cleopatra & Anthony dolls

1980-1985 Alexander Portraits of History Doll Series, 12″ tall, uses the Cissette head mold, vinyl head with rooted hair, plastic body, some of the dolls in this series are Cleopatra and Marc Anthony, Napoleon and Josephine and others.

1984+ Alexander Beatrice Alexander herself 21" doll

1984-1990 Madame Alexander Beatrice Alexander herself doll, 8, 10 or 21″ tall, all sizes were usually dressed in pink gowns.  Some were released as limited editions.  The 21″ size was part of the Portrait series. shown is Madame Alexander 21″ tall dressed in a pink silk or satin gown with chiffon scarf.

1997 Alexander Cissy doll, Secret Armoire trunk set

1997-1998 Alexander Cissy doll Secret Armoire trunk set –  an trunk covered in pink moiré fabric with a vanity with pull out drawer, bench, mirror and came with a 21″ Cissy doll dressed in lingerie and a pink night gown and marabou trimmed robe.
