Alexander 1923-1936 Antique Dolls Identified USA

Madame Alexander dolls 1923+ USA

The Alexander Doll Company was founded in 1923 by Bertha “Beatrice” Alexander Behrman (born in 1895-1990) and is still in operation today in New York, NY USA. In 1928 a high quality line of dolls were produced and advertised as “Madame Alexander” and is the name now commonly associated with Alexander dolls.

Alexander dolls were produced with only a few different face molds. Each dolls originality lies in the costume it wore. If your doll is not in the original outfit, has no wrist tag or box – it’s nearly impossible to know exactly, who the character doll originally was.

Early cloth or composition dolls may be marked Alexander or unmarked and should have a clothing tag of the dolls character name, Madame Alexander, New York USA sewn into a seam.
