Allied-Grand Dolls 1915+ USA
The Allied-Grand Doll Manufacturing Company of Brooklyn, NY, is the way the company name appears in early advertising. Allied-Grand specialized in making black dolls, sometime in the 1960s the company name changed to Allied Doll & Toy Company. Other names collectors use are; Allied Imported or Allied Eastern.
Artistic-Eastern Doll Company and Eastern Doll Corporation are the companies that actually produced the dolls marked AE and, sold to to the doll trade.
Allied Doll & Toy is mainly known today for making black dolls and large sized vinyl and hard plastic high heel fashion dolls. Dolls were mass produced and sold in bulk to other smaller companies, which marketed the dolls under different names. They also made composition Baby dolls in white or black. Allied-Grand’s dolls were very affordable and popular, especially the bride dolls. In 1980 Allied Doll & Toy operations ceased.

Jackie Robinson, number 42, was the first black baseball player in the major leagues, Jackie Robinson Day is celebrated on April 15th.
Allied-Grand Dolls Identified

1949 Allied-Grand Black Topsy Baby doll No. 1464, Black Crying Baby dolls No. 260, both dolls 10 1/2″ tall, all composition doll jointed at the shoulders and hips with bent limb baby legs, molded painted hair and/or Topsy with three black tuffs of hair or pigtails, painted eyes, open/closed mouth, wore a cotton sleeveless dress, knit booties on bare feet, dolls are unmarked.

1960s Allied-Grand Barbie Fashion Queen doll clone, 11 1/2″ tall, vinyl head with molded hair, painted facial features, closed mouth, came with three bubblecut style wigs in platinum, blonde, light brown, light weight plastic jointed body at neck, shoulders and hips, high heel feet, doll mark AE Made in Taiwan.
1949 Allied-Grand Black Baby doll, 12″ tall, all composition jointed at the shoulders and hips with straight legs, painted molded hair, painted eyes, open mouth, came wearing overalls and shirt, doll mark AGDC or unmarked.
1949 Allied-Grand White Baby doll No. 1725, 12″ tall, all composition doll jointed at the shoulders and hips with bent limb baby legs, molded painted hair, painted eyes, open/closed mouth, wore a cotton sleeveless dress and bonnet, knit booties on feet, doll mark AGDC or unmarked.

1960s Allied-Grand Bonnie Miss doll, 18″ tall, hard plastic jointed body with vinyl head, rooted hair, sleep eyes, closed mouth, pierced ears, high heel feet, came dressed in a formal gown, stockings and high heel shoes, doll mark R 20010.
1960s Allied-Grand Bonnie Dear doll or Bride doll, 15, 18, 21, 24 or 28″ tall, (probably other sizes) vinyl jointed body with high heel feet, vinyl head with rooted hair, sleep eyes, blue eye shadow, red painted lips and pearl earrings, dressed appropriately as a bride with lace over gown, doll marked AE and some plus a number.

ca. 1960s Allied-Grand Playpal type doll, sized 36″ tall, hard plastic fully jointed body, softer vinyl head with rooted hair, sleep eyes, closed mouth, various outfits, doll marked AE 3651 and probably other numbers, the 2003 reproduction Patti Playpal doll mark © ADG is by Ashton-Drake Galleries. This Playpal type doll marked AE with a number, appears to be the same doll sold and found in her box, by the H.J. Blumberg Company, a New York City Department Store.

1960-1961 Allied-Grand Hello Dolly doll, 11 1/2″ tall, portrait doll of actress Carol Channing in the Broadway musical Hello Dolly, vinyl head with short bubblecut rooted blonde hair, painted facial features, closed mouth, plastic jointed high heel body, doll mark AE. The Hello Dolly Carol Channing doll wears a red costume gown from the Broadway musical Hello Dolly.

1960s Allied-Grand Lorna doll, 12″ tall, three lashes at dolls outer corner eye (the Ideal Tammy doll has four lashes), all plastic jointed body, vinyl head with rooted hair, painted facial features, came dressed in a blue sun suit, doll marked AE. An Ideal Tammy Clone doll, sold through W.T. Grant stores. Doll may have been sold by other stores, which may have called her by different names.
1967 Allied Doll & Toy Big Sister and Little Sister dolls set, 11″ and 14″ tall, box reads “double delight, pretty and bright”, same Fluffy type doll mold without the freckles, doll mark unknown. Other doll makers that used this Effanbee Fluffy type doll mold without the Effanbee marking.
Other doll markers who sold this Fluffy type doll mold and the doll names: Mary Hoyer Margie doll with no freckles. Advertising mail in premium Kellogg Linda Lou doll uses the same head mold,doll unmarked. Mollyes called her Perky also unmarked. Earle Pullan sold this doll, name unknown, doll marked Pullan. Sayco named their Fluffy type doll Cute Carol with freckles, doll mark unknown. Valentine Perfect Patient doll, 13 or 15″ tall, uses this Fluffy type doll mold, no freckles, doll unmarked and probably others.
1965 Allied-Grand Wee Bonnie doll, 10″ tall, vinyl head with short rooted hair, an Effanbee Fluffy type, sleep eyes, real upper lashes, painted lower lashes, closed mouth, plastic jointed body with bent legs, dressed in a white short sleeve dress with red applique, red tights, white bonnet, doll mark unknown.
