Wilhelm Quendt and Phillipp Schutzmeister founded a porcelain factory in Boilstadt, Gotha, Germany in 1889. In 1918 Schutzmeister & Quendt became part of the reorganized Bing – Concentra conglomeration, during this time Schutzmeister & Quendt doll production was limited to bisque doll heads made for other Bing members such as Kammer & Reinhardt and Welsch & Company.

The Schutzmeister & Quendt company used the doll mark SQ or S & Q initials often intertwined, plus a mold number or just the doll mold number on the back of the dolls head.

Schutzmeister & Quendt made Character Baby and Dolly faced bisque head black or white dolls, cloth dolls and tea-cozy dolls and in 1925 doll marked Jeannette with a cold pressed painted bisque head.

Schutzmeister & Quendt Doll Mold Numbers Identified

79, 80, 81, 101, 102, 103, 201, 204, 223, 251, 252, 300, 301, 301 Jeannette,1376

Doll mold numbers 79, 80, 81 were all registered by Schutzmeister & Quendt as Child dolls in 1891, but no known examples have been found to date. Doll molds 101, 102, 103 and 1376 are socket head dolls, doll molds 201 (black or white), 204, 223, 300, 301 are Baby dolls, doll molds 251 and 252 are black Baby dolls.
