Little is known of the Monica Doll Studios doll manufacturer of Hollywood, California, USA, but if you ever come across one of these unmarked dolls, there can be no question as to it’s origin or how to identify their beautiful dolls.
Monica Doll Studios is the only company that ever made a composition or hard plastic doll with rooted hair! That’s right, the human hair is rooted right into the head. The first sizes offered were 21″ or 24″ tall and probably have a cloth torso body, later dolls were sized 11, 15, 17 and 21″ tall with an all composition body and were made between 1941 to 1948.
ca. 1948 Monica Doll Studios, Monica doll, 20″ tall, all composition, human hair rooted into the scalp (an inside tag reads, Not a glued on wig), so you can comb or curl her hair without spoiling it, painted eyes, closed mouth, jointed body at neck, shoulders and hips with flat feet. Most Marion dolls have a widows peak hairstyle as shown and were dressed in appropriate clothing for the time period of a school girl daytime dress or a long gown.
Monica dolls will have the dolls name on the original packaging and the accompanied paper hang tag states Monica Doll Hollywood. Dolls were sold at upscale department stores like; F.A.O. Schwarz and Neiman Marcus, etc.

1949-1952 Monica Doll Studios added a line of all hard plastic dolls named Marion 17″ tall. The Marion dolls have the same patented process of rooting human hair into the dolls hard plastic scalp, with sleep eyes, closed mouth, jointed body at the neck, shoulders and hips with flat feet, doll is unmarked.
